Same goes for Vogel. In the scenes where she contemplates what to do about Zach, her desire to teach the young killer the code seems to come from a place of pride and not practicality. Like Dexter, Zach could be putting up a front that both his “spiritual parents” want to see. He shows Dexter the damaged child and could-be protege, he shows Vogel a potential serial killer who hasn’t quite come into form yet.
